The European Union has declared its policy towards Ukraine unchanged and its continued support for its fight against Russian aggression. The statements were made today during a briefing in Brussels, AFP reports.
European Union spokesman Peter Stano stressed that the EU’s position remains unchanged and is reflected in the conclusions of the European Council. “The European Union and its member states remain committed to supporting Ukraine in its efforts to restore its sovereignty and territorial integrity,” he said.
European Commission spokesperson Eric Mamer, answering journalists’ questions about the statements of the newly elected US president, who promised to end the war quickly, said that the EU does not comment on election statements but focuses on facts. “We are convinced that the United States, as well as the European Union, has a key interest in Ukraine being strong and sovereign. The war could end tomorrow if Russia stops its aggression,” Mamer said.
He also reiterated that the European Commission continues to be strongly committed to achieving peace in Ukraine, implementing its policies and priorities in this regard. “We remain the main provider of support for Ukraine on all fronts and leaders in the efforts to achieve a just and sustainable peace for Ukraine and its future,” added Mamer.
