A panel of European commissioners will arrive in Ukraine next week, an important signal of support from the European Union on the third anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion. This was announced by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal on Telegram on Monday, 17 February.
According to the Prime Minister, the visit will include bilateral meetings and consultations between the Ukrainian authorities and representatives of the European Commission. The main topics of the talks will be security and defence, strengthening sanctions pressure on Russia, Ukraine’s economic cooperation with the EU and the process of integration into the EU.
Shmyhal stressed that this visit is another powerful signal of support from the EU, which underlines the solidarity of European partners with Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression.
The fact of the upcoming visit was also confirmed by the European Commission’s spokesperson, Stefan de Keersmaeker, during a briefing. According to him, the European Commission board will visit Ukraine on a symbolic day, when the third anniversary of the start of Russia’s full-scale aggression will be marked.
The meetings are expected to further strengthen the EU’s sanctions policy, increase military support and accelerate Ukraine’s integration into the European community. The visit of the European officials once again demonstrates Brussels’ continued solidarity with Kyiv at a crucial moment in the country’s history.
