The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has allocated more than UAH 2.6 billion provided by the European Commission to provide meals for children in schools. This was announced by Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal on 17 December.

The funds will be used to provide free hot meals for primary school children in secondary schools, taking into account their needs. The initiative is part of the government’s Winter Support for Ukrainians programme, which aims to help vulnerable people during the winter period.

Next year, the government plans to expand the programme to all schoolchildren across the country. This is an important step to support children and their families in times of economic hardship, as well as to increase the level of social protection in education. Attracting funds from the European Commission underlines the international support for Ukraine in socio-economic projects.
