WASHINGTON, 17 March – The United States is in active contact with European countries to resolve the war in Ukraine. Steve Witkoff, US President Donald Trump’s special envoy for the Middle East and a member of the Ukraine-Russia negotiating team, said this on CNN.

Coordination with allies

“We are in discussions with all interested European countries. These include France, the UK, Norway, Finland and all the others,” said Witkoff.

According to him, Washington is actively coordinating its actions with its allies to agree on approaches to a potential ceasefire and develop a common diplomatic position.

What is the US discussing with Europe?

Vitkoff stressed that the agenda includes details of future agreements that could be included in the ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia.

In particular, the negotiations are about:

– Security guarantees for Ukraine

– Europe’s role in a possible peace deal

– Mechanisms for monitoring the implementation of agreements

What does this mean for Ukraine?

Witkoff’s statement indicates that the US is stepping up its diplomatic efforts to resolve the war, but it remains unclear what specific terms Washington will offer Ukraine.

Official Kyiv has previously stated that it will not agree to a freeze on the conflict or territorial concessions.

Meanwhile, negotiations continue, and the key question remains whether the allies will be able to develop a unified strategy that will satisfy Ukraine and ensure long-term security in the region.
