US President Donald Trump has said that Washington will support any decision by Israel to take further action in response to Hamas’ refusal to release all hostages by the deadline it set, The Jerusalem Post reports.

“Hamas just released three hostages, including a US citizen. They appear to be in good condition! This is a change from their statements last week when they threatened not to release anyone,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Now Israel has to decide what to do with the 12:00pm deadline today. The United States will support any decision they make!”

IDF prepares for an offensive

Shortly after Trump’s announcement, IDF Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Gertzi Halevi confirmed that the Israeli army was preparing a large-scale offensive, while making every effort to return the hostages.

“We remember our duty to bring all the hostages home. This is our top priority,” Galevi said.

Netanyahu discusses response to ultimatum

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will hold an urgent meeting with Defence Minister Israel Katz, Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer, as well as the heads of the negotiating team and defence ministries to discuss the country’s position on Trump’s ultimatum.

Netanyahu has previously warned that if Hamas fails to fulfil its obligations, Israel will resume large-scale hostilities until the terrorist group is completely defeated.

Hostages return home

Despite Hamas’ threats, three hostages were released on Saturday: Alexander Trufanov, Saguy Dekel-Chen and Yair Horn. They were handed over to the International Red Cross and returned to Israel, where they were met by their families and friends.
