The UK remains one of Ukraine’s most reliable allies, providing diplomatic, economic and military support. London plans to strengthen Ukraine’s position in 2025 by further increasing sanctions pressure on Russia. This was stated by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer during a meeting with his Norwegian counterpart Jonas Gahr Støre in Bergen on 16 December, the British government’s website reports.
Starmer stressed that his key task is to ensure that Ukraine is in the strongest possible position in 2025:
“To do this, we are actively using tools such as economic sanctions and the initiative to create a ‘shadow fleet’ aimed at blocking key sources of funding for Putin’s military machine,” the prime minister said in a statement.
They also stressed the unwavering support for Ukraine from both the UK and Norway. Both countries are actively working as part of the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF), a defence coalition of Ukraine’s European allies that unites the countries of Northern Europe.
At the meeting, Starmer and Støre discussed the importance of coordinating efforts to counter Russian aggression and maintain stability on the European continent. The politicians stressed that sanctions, economic pressure and strategic initiatives will continue to play a key role in weakening the Kremlin’s financial capabilities and strengthening Ukraine’s defence capabilities.
This statement is yet another confirmation that the UK remains a leader among Ukraine’s partners in the fight for freedom and independence.
