President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan during his visit to Abu Dhabi. The Head of State announced this on Monday, 17 February.

Main topics of the negotiations

According to Zelenskyy, the return of Ukrainian prisoners of war was among the key issues of the talks. He thanked the UAE for its mediation, which has already helped save many lives, and discussed the possibility of further cooperation in this area.

The parties also signed a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between the governments of Ukraine and the UAE.

What the CEPA agreement provides for

According to the President’s Office, the agreement will liberalise the access of Ukrainian goods to the UAE market to the maximum extent possible. This means that it will be much easier for Ukrainian companies to export their products.

The document covers the following areas:

  • trade in goods and services,
  • investments,
  • digital trade.

“This is the first time that our country has signed such an agreement with a Gulf country,” the OP stressed.
