Kyiv is working to ensure that the agreement on strategic minerals meets the national interests of both Ukraine and the United States.
This was stated by the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andriy Sybiga during a joint press conference with his Lithuanian counterpart Kęstutis Budrys in Kyiv
According to him, Ukraine was ready to sign the previously drafted framework agreement, but on 28 March Kyiv received a proposal to develop the agreement through diplomatic channels, which launched domestic approval procedures.
“We have started relevant consultations with the US side on the text of the agreement. One round of these consultations has already taken place. The Ukrainian side is committed to concluding a document that would meet the mutual national interests of both the United States and Ukraine,” Sibiga said.
The minister stressed that the document envisages an increased presence of large US businesses in Ukraine, which will help strengthen the country’s security infrastructure.
“We will work with our American colleagues to reach a mutually acceptable text for signing,” the Foreign Minister concluded.
