Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga said that Russia must now realise the consequences for obstructing the peace process. He stressed the need to increase international pressure on Moscow.

The Foreign Minister wrote about this on the social network X on Sunday, 19 May.

Ukraine – for the future, Russia – in the grip of the past

Sibiga noted that the recent meeting in Istanbul clearly demonstrated the fundamental difference between Kyiv and Moscow’s approaches to ending the war.

“Ukraine is looking forward, focused on a full and immediate ceasefire to start a genuine peace process. Russia is stuck in 2022, continuing to make the same absurd demands, ignoring the reality and suffering that its aggression has caused,” the minister said.

Demand: more international pressure

The Ukrainian diplomat is convinced that the world must prevent the Kremlin from imitating dialogue and instead increase sanctions and political pressure on Moscow.

“This is another reason why pressure on Russia should be increased. Moscow must now realise the consequences of obstructing the peace process,” Sibiga said.

His statement comes on the eve of new diplomatic consultations, in which Ukraine continues to insist on a full ceasefire as the first step towards sustainable peace.
