A bilateral meeting between Ukraine and the European Commission took place in Luxembourg to discuss the final chapter of Cluster 1, “Fundamentals of the EU Accession Process”. This is one of the most important areas on Ukraine’s path to EU membership, the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers reports .
Over the course of two days, the Ukrainian delegation headed by the State Statistics Service presented achievements in the implementation of EU standards in state statistics, discussing methodology, data quality and the expansion of the list of statistical indicators provided to Eurostat. This process is part of the European integration strategy that brings Ukraine closer to full membership in the EU.
“Every day Ukraine demonstrates its steadfastness in its aspiration to become a part of the European Union. I am grateful to the negotiating teams for their high level of preparation. We expect that the European Commission’s report will allow us to open the cluster as early as 2025,” said Olha Stefanishyna, Vice Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine.
Next week, negotiations are scheduled to take place in Brussels on the second cluster, Internal Market, which covers free movement of goods, free movement of workers, competition and corporate law.
EU High Representative Josep Borrell and European Commissioner Oliver Varghese confirmed that the legislative screening process is progressing well. If Ukraine fulfils the necessary conditions, accession negotiations could start as early as early 2025.
