The head of the National Security and Defence Council’s Countering Disinformation Centre (CDC), Andriy Kovalenko, has denied reports that the United States has allegedly stopped military assistance to Ukraine. He said this on Wednesday, 29 January.
According to him, the supply of weapons and equipment continues in accordance with previously approved aid packages. “The information disseminated in the media about the suspension of military assistance is not true,” the statement published on the CPD’s Telegram channel reads.
The day before, The New York Times reported that the administration of US President Donald Trump had temporarily frozen funding for foreign aid programmes, including most military and security initiatives for Ukraine, Taiwan and Jordan. At the same time, exceptions were made for military aid to Israel and Egypt, as well as for food support programmes.
Experts note that such a move could have long-term consequences for US strategic interests in the world.
