Ukraine is actively preparing for high-level Ukrainian-American contacts after the inauguration of the 45th US President Donald Trump on 20 January. According to Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Heorhiy Tykhyi at a press conference on 10 January, the key goal for Ukraine is to achieve a just peace in cooperation with the United States.
“All of us in Ukraine want the war to end on terms that are fair to Ukraine. President Trump, for his part, demonstrates his determination to end the war. Therefore, we are preparing for President Zelenskyy’s meeting with Donald Trump and expect that these high-level contacts will contribute to joint work for peace,” Tychy stressed.
The spokesperson also explained the reasons for the postponement of the visit of Keith Kellogg, a candidate for the post of Special Representative for Ukraine and Russia in the Trump administration.
“General Kellogg’s visit will take place after the inauguration for purely legal reasons, not for any political reasons. We continue to prepare for his arrival and consider this visit to be very important,” Tychy stressed.
According to him, Ukraine is looking forward to fruitful cooperation with the new US administration, which, according to Trump’s previous statements, is determined to end the war.
