Ukraine is intensifying its diplomatic activities in the Middle East, including preparations to restore relations with Syria. This was stated by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in a video address on Thursday, 2 January.

“The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andriy Sybiga and the Minister of Agrarian Policy Vitaliy Koval have just reported on their talks in Syria and Lebanon. They discussed the prospects for cooperation with the new Syrian administration, as well as with Lebanese business. “This year we can add Syria to the list of our reliable partners. We are preparing to restore diplomatic relations and cooperation with international organisations in the region,” Zelenskyy said.

The President also stressed the importance of expanding economic cooperation with Lebanon.

“Currently, trade with this country is worth $400 million in agricultural exports alone. We intend to double this figure in 2025. At the same time, we will be more active in Africa, which will open up new opportunities for Ukrainian diplomacy and economy,” the Head of State added.

This step, according to Zelenskyy, will help strengthen Ukraine’s position in the international arena, expand partnerships and increase the country’s economic stability.
