Ukraine received weapons for the Armed Forces worth almost €538 million in 2024 under the Danish funding model. This was reported by the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine.

This amount was the result of agreements with the Danish Ministry of Defence to support the Ukrainian defence industry. Funding was provided by the governments of Denmark (€125 million through the national UkraineFund), Sweden (€20 million), Iceland (€2.7 million) and from interest on frozen Russian assets (€390 million).

“Launched in 2023, the Danish model involves financing Ukrainian defence companies by the Danish government. The Ukrainian side compiles a list of projects, and Danish experts assess the potential of manufacturers and their ability to fulfil contracts.

At the first stage of cooperation, the production of Bogdan artillery systems was financed. The next stage was the production of long-range drones, anti-tank and anti-ship missiles.

Danish Defence Minister Troels Lund Poulsen stressed the importance of this cooperation:
“I am proud of the joint work between Denmark and Ukraine within the framework of the ‘Danish model’. The speed of the Ukrainian defence industry is impressive. Denmark will continue to lead this initiative and I hope that other countries will follow suit.”

The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine emphasises that procurement from Ukrainian manufacturers has numerous advantages:

  • fast delivery times;
  • competitive prices;
  • organising training and maintenance near the frontline.

In addition, support for the defence industry helps to preserve jobs and contributes to Ukraine’s economic development even in times of war.

“The Danish model has become an important step towards strengthening Ukraine’s defence capabilities and attracting international partners to develop its defence industry.
