As part of its support for Ukraine’s defence capabilities, the UK has allocated £3.5 billion (about $4.5 billion) to purchase modern military equipment from Ukrainian and British manufacturers. This was reported by Ukraine’s 112 Channel.
A trade mission from the United Kingdom, which included representatives of the Ministry of Defence, the Department for Business and Trade, and the ADS Defence Association, visited Ukraine to discuss the terms of cooperation with the Ukrainian government and industrial enterprises, Ukrinform reports.
The funding follows an agreement signed in July that allows Ukraine to use £3.5 billion to buy modern weapons from British suppliers.
Reliable support for Ukraine from the UK
Luke Pollard, the UK Secretary of State for the Armed Forces, stressed that support for Ukraine remains unwavering. “By deepening our ties with the Ukrainian defence industry, we are not only enhancing our own capabilities but also strengthening Ukraine’s. We stand shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine and will continue to provide support for as long as it takes,” he said.
The UK Ministry of Defence has already signed contracts with several British companies. In particular, Thales will start manufacturing anti-aircraft missiles, and Sheffield Forgemasters will produce barrels for artillery pieces. Planned future orders are currently under preparation and will be financed from Ukraine’s reserves and the £3.5 billion in export finance provided by the UK.
This partnership between Ukraine and the UK underscores the importance of international support in strengthening Ukraine’s defence capabilities, which is critical in the current environment.
