Over the past week, Russian aggressors have used almost 1,300 air strikes against Ukraine. This was announced by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy in his Facebook post on Sunday, 19 January.
“This week alone, the Ukrainian Defence Forces shot down 33 missiles, including ballistic missiles, and 311 attack drones in our skies. Another 136 drones used in daily attacks on infrastructure did not reach their targets,” Zelenskyy said.
The Head of State thanked all the servicemen, military aviation, anti-aircraft gunners, electronic warfare units and mobile fire groups for their contribution to the defence of Ukraine. At the same time, he stressed the need to strengthen defence capabilities: “The task is unchanged – to further strengthen the defence of our skies.”
According to the President, Russia used about 550 attack drones, nearly 60 missiles of various types and more than 660 air bombs against Ukraine over the past week.
“More Patriot systems for Ukraine means more protection of life. More long-range weapons for Ukraine means more guarantees that the Russian war will be stopped,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy summed up.
