Ukrainian Armed Forces show footage of North Korean military captured in Kursk region

On 11 January 2025, the Special Operations Forces (SOF) of the Armed Forces of Ukraine released footage showing the capture of two North Korean soldiers in the Kursk region of Russia. The operation was carried out during special actions of the Special Operations Forces’ tactical group No. 84.

According to the Special Operations Forces, one of the prisoners was captured during a combat mission in the Kursk region. After being evacuated from the battlefield, he received first aid. The Ukrainian Air Assault Forces also showed footage of the capture of a second DPRK serviceman. According to the paratroopers, this North Korean serviceman was captured during assault operations at the positions of the Polissya Airborne Brigade units.

Russian-made equipment and weapons

During the interrogation, the prisoner was found to be carrying Russian-made equipment and weapons, which confirms North Korea’s participation in the war on the side of Russia. The Ukrainian military noted the importance of this operation and described how they acted during the mission, which ensured the successful capture of these soldiers.

The capture of North Korean soldiers was a significant event that confirms the international dimension of the war that Russia is waging in Ukraine with the support of other states.
