On September 24, the Ukrainian government approved a new procedure for providing one-time financial assistance to the families of military personnel who die or sustain disabilities due to war. This assistance is provided under the Law on the Status of War Veterans and Guarantees of Their Social Protection.
According to the decree, in the event of a serviceman’s death, the family will receive compensation equal to 750 subsistence minimums for able-bodied individuals, based on the rate as of January 1 of the year in which the tragedy occurred. The scheme also outlines payments for those who suffer war-related injuries or disabilities:
- 400 subsistence minimums for those with Group I disabilities;
- 300 subsistence minimums for those with Group II disabilities;
- 250 subsistence minimums for those with Group III disabilities.
To receive this financial aid, applicants must submit a request to the Ministry of Veterans Affairs. The application can be submitted either in paper form or electronically through the Diia portal or the Unified State Register of War Veterans.
