On 21 October, US Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin visited Kyiv to hold talks on further support for Ukraine in the face of ongoing Russian aggression. This was reported by CNN.
During the visit, Austin is scheduled to meet with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Defence Minister Rustem Umerov. The main topic of discussion will be the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine for weapons and military equipment, as well as the prospects for further US support over the next year.
According to a senior Pentagon official, the visit will allow the US defence chief to assess the evolution of relations between the two countries over the two years of war. This is especially important in the context of the upcoming US presidential election, the outcome of which could affect further efforts to support Ukraine.
Against the backdrop of ongoing hostilities and Russia’s minor successes on the frontline, the key issue is to provide Ukraine with the necessary resources to continue its resistance to the aggressor.
