“War of Rebirth”: Netanyahu announces new name for war at mourning session

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu: israelinfo.

On 7 October, at a mourning meeting of the government dedicated to the anniversary of the disaster, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recalled the outbreak of war that resulted from the Hamas attack. He stressed that this war was different from a conventional military operation and announced his initiative to change the name of the conflict, which had previously been given the unfortunate and unused definition of “Iron Swords”.

According to Netanyahu, the ongoing war waged by his government should be dubbed the “War of Rebirth”. This was the centrepiece of his eulogy, which also included words of support for the families of Israelis who have lost loved ones, as well as solidarity with the families of the hostages who have been held in Gaza for a year. The prime minister also noted the heroism of the Israeli military, which is fighting on all fronts, israelinfo reported.

Despite the lack of specific details, Netanyahu assured that all the goals set by his government would be achieved. His speech ended with a rhetorical statement: “With God’s help, we will fight together, we will win together, and the Stronghold of Israel will not betray.” By “the Stronghold of Israel”, the Prime Minister refers to one of the names of the Almighty, which indicates his confidence in Israel’s divine protection, regardless of the quality of the leadership.

After the mourning session, Netanyahu convened a “security advisory meeting”, as reported by the Prime Minister’s Office. It should be noted that Defence Minister Galant was not invited to this meeting, which raised additional questions and discussions among experts.
