The Ukrainian government is improving the Warm Winter social programme, which provides financial assistance to families with children. As Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal announced on his Telegram channel on 21 January, the programme will now cover families who were unable to receive payments in 2024 due to technical difficulties.
“These are payments for each child from low-income families and families of internally displaced persons. Now, changes have been made to cover families that were not included in the recipient lists last year for technical reasons,” Shmyhal said.
Programme achievements in 2024
In December 2024, almost 600,000 Ukrainians received assistance under the programme. Each child received UAH 6.5 thousand. The total amount of expenditure was UAH 3.8 billion.
As the Prime Minister stressed, these funds were used for urgent needs: warm clothes, shoes and other winter items for children.
What will change in 2025?
The expansion of the Warm Winter programme will allow us to support even more families, including those who needed help earlier but were unable to receive it due to technical reasons. This is an important step towards improving social justice and ensuring that children’s basic needs are met in the winter.
