During a conversation with journalists, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that a strong and capable army remains the main guarantee of the state’s security. This was reported by Ukrinform.

“A strong army is an army that can defend itself. And for us, this is really number one in the system of security guarantees,” Zelenskyy stressed.

The Head of State also noted that there are two approaches to ensuring international support – through a large military contingent or through a limited presence of allies with an action similar to Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty, which provides for collective defence.

“A large contingent is needed if there is no American backstop – that is, direct security guarantees from the United States,” the President explained.

In addition, Zelenskyy said that Donald Trump had assured him during their meeting: “The subsoil agreement (resource partnership) can also be seen as one of the elements of guaranteeing security for Ukraine.
