President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine needs at least 200,000 European peacekeepers to prevent new aggression from Russia after the ceasefire agreement. Reuters reports this with reference to Zelensky’s speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
“Out of all the Europeans? 200,000 is the minimum. This is the minimum, otherwise there is nothing else,” the President stressed, arguing that such a number of peacekeepers is necessary given the large number of Russian troops, which is about 1.5 million.
According to him, even with parity of forces, Ukraine needs additional security guarantees, among which the presence of European peacekeepers will be only one of the key elements.
The President also stressed that the creation of an international security platform for Ukraine is an important step towards ensuring stability in the region.
