Zelensky criticised Fico

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has criticised Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico for his pro-Russian stance on energy, saying he is wrong to choose Moscow over his US and European partners.

“For the attention of the current Prime Minister of Slovakia. A few days ago, President Trump made a strong decision that will significantly increase the export of US LNG (liquefied natural gas), in particular to Europe,” Zelenskyy wrote in his address.

“Russian gas is paid for not only with money, but also with independence”

The Ukrainian leader stressed that Europe needs more energy resources from reliable partners for security and stability.

“You have to pay for American LNG with money, but you have to pay for Russian gas not only with money, but also with independence and sovereignty,” he stressed.

Zelenskyy noted that many European countries have already chosen between cheap Russian gas and their own independence, and most have made the right choice.

“But not Mr Fico. He chooses Moscow over America and other partners who can provide his country with gas on commercial terms. This is his mistake. Everyone in Europe needs to be far-sighted and develop relations that strengthen our nations,” the President of Ukraine stressed.

Earlier, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico harshly criticised Zelenskyy, calling him an “enemy” over the suspension of Russian gas transit through Ukraine. Fico also accused Kyiv of trying to hide the problem by offering an alternative gas supply route from Azerbaijan.

Tensions between Bratislava and Kyiv are growing against the backdrop of the gas issue and Slovakia’s general course towards rapprochement with Russia, which contradicts European energy initiatives and sanctions policy.
