President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced his readiness to hand over its captured soldiers to North Korea in exchange for the return of Ukrainian prisoners of war from Russia. He made the announcement on Sunday, 12 January, in a post on Facebook.

“Ukraine is ready to hand over his people to Kim Jong-un if he can organise their exchange for our soldiers who are held captive in Russia,” Zelensky wrote.

Disclosure of Russia’s dependence on the DPRK

The President stressed that this is only the beginning, and Ukraine expects new cases of capturing enemy soldiers, in particular from North Korea. According to Zelenskyy, these events demonstrate the critical dependence of the Russian army on military assistance from the DPRK.

“It is only a matter of time before our guys manage to capture more. No one in the world has any doubt that the Russian army can no longer do without Pyongyang’s help,” he stressed.

Choice for North Korean soldiers

Zelenskyy also noted that there are alternatives for soldiers from the DPRK who do not want to return to their country. Those who seek to promote peace will have the opportunity to spread the truth about the war and Russia among their people.

The President stressed that this situation illustrates changes in Russia’s position: from attempts to dictate NATO’s terms to dependence on North Korea’s military assistance.

“Putin started three years ago with NATO ultimatums and rewriting history, and now he cannot do it without Pyongyang’s support,” Zelenskyy concluded.
