President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has submitted draft laws to the Verkhovna Rada on the extension of martial law and general mobilisation in Ukraine. The relevant documents appeared on the parliament’s website on Tuesday, 14 January.
Draft law No. 12404 proposes to approve a presidential decree extending martial law in Ukraine for 90 days from 8 February 2025. Decree No. 26/2025 stipulates that martial law will remain in effect until May this year.
At the same time, draft law No. 12405 was registered to approve a presidential decree on the extension of general mobilisation. According to the document, the mobilisation will be extended from 8 February 2025 for another 90 days, with a partial amendment to Article 3 of Decree No. 65/2022 of 24 February 2022.
The decision to extend martial law and mobilisation requires parliamentary approval.
These measures are driven by Russia’s ongoing aggression against Ukraine, which requires the state to mobilise resources to ensure the country’s defence and security.
