Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that the request for long-range Tomahawk cruise missiles was part of a confidential Victory Plan agreed with the White House. In an interview with Northern European media on Wednesday (30 October), he stressed that the issue of receiving the missiles was confidential between Ukraine and the United States.
“When many countries supported the Victory Plan, the information that Ukraine sought to obtain missiles such as Tomahawk appeared in the media. This raises the question of confidentiality between partners,” Zelenskyy said, adding that the publication of such information raises questions about the security of strategic agreements between partner countries.
According to Zelenskyy, the request for long-range weapons was justified by the need for preventive deterrence if Russia continues its aggression. However, the partners reacted to this request as a potential escalation.
Ukraine, facing increasing threats, continues to seek support from partners to strengthen its defence arsenal, but leaks of confidential discussions may affect future relations and trust between the parties.
