Zelensky: Ukraine has received less than half of the $175 billion in US aid

Ukraine has so far received less than half of the promised $175 billion in aid from the United States to combat Russian aggression. This was stated by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in an interview with Ukrainian Radio.

“As for the aid. Of course, we are grateful for the bipartisan support. In total, Democrats and Republicans voted for $175 or $177 billion in aid to Ukraine. But this money still needs to be delivered. If you ask me how much of it we have actually received, I would say less than half,” Zelenskyy stressed.

The bulk of the aid is military

The President clarified that it was mainly military aid. According to him, these are weapons that Ukraine expects on the battlefield.

“When I say half, I mean less, I’m talking about weapons. There is also humanitarian aid, financial support, funds allocated to the budget and regions. But when we agreed, it was primarily about weapons,” Zelenskyy explained.

Gratitude to partners and objectivity

Despite the difficulties with the delivery and implementation of the promised assistance, the Head of State expressed his sincere gratitude to the international partners who support Ukraine in its struggle for freedom and democratic values.

“Every penny is important to survive, and this is a fact. We are grateful for this, but we must be honest: this is the kind of help we received, like this, and it is very important,” Zelensky added.

Strengthening the defence capabilities of partners

The President also noted that the United States and its allies use Ukrainian experience to strengthen their defence capabilities.

“The United States has increased its weapons production, replenished its warehouses, and strengthened its army based on our experience. They have learnt a lot from the example of another nation, and so have the Europeans,” Zelenskyy stressed.

The United States remains one of Ukraine’s key partners, providing a significant portion of military, financial and humanitarian assistance. However, the President’s words underscore the importance of prompt delivery of support, especially in the context of intense hostilities and the need to deter Russian aggression.
