President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has assured that the US military support for Ukraine remains unchanged. This was the main topic of his answer to journalists’ questions during a joint briefing with President of Moldova Maia Sandu in Kyiv on Saturday, 25 January.
President’s statement
Zelenskyy stressed that the suspension of funding for some US programmes does not currently apply to military assistance.
“I am focused on military assistance, and it has not been stopped, thank God. As for other restrictions related to humanitarian programmes, the situation still needs to be studied in detail,” the president said.
Reaction to the US State Department’s decision
Zelenskyy confirmed that the United States had imposed restrictions on certain humanitarian programmes for 90 days. However, he noted that these changes require a deeper analysis to assess their impact on Ukraine and other countries receiving assistance from the US government.
“I know that many international institutions have received support from the US before. But now it is important to focus on what ensures Ukraine’s security,” he added.
Military support as a priority
Ukraine continues to receive military assistance, which is critical in a time of war. Zelenskyy noted that his efforts are focused on ensuring an uninterrupted supply of weapons and military equipment.
This statement came amid concerns over the suspension of some US funding. However, as the Ukrainian leader assured, support for Ukraine’s defence capabilities remains unchanged.
