President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a detailed conversation with President of France Emmanuel Macron. The main topic was the strengthening of defence support for Ukraine, as well as joint work on security guarantees. Zelenskyy said this during his evening address on 13 January.
The main points of the conversation
According to Zelenskyy, the leaders discussed the following issues:
- Defence support: supply of weapons, investment in ammunition and deployment of partner troops.
- Training of theUkrainian military: details of training programmes were discussed.
- Peace and security: the parties agreed to coordinate their positions to achieve a just peace and develop effective security guarantees.
French initiative
Zelenskyy noted that France’s initiative to deploy military contingents in Ukraine was considered as one of the possible options. They also discussed steps to implement it and involve other countries in this initiative.
“We are coordinating our positions not only on defence support, but also in the global context. This is important for creating a solid foundation of security for our country and the region,” Zelenskyy said.
Prospects for cooperation
The heads of state agreed to meet in the near future. Their teams were instructed to prepare a series of contacts at various levels to ensure effective coordination with international partners.
Zelenskyy also reported on the successes of the Ukrainian military in the Kursk region, which were analysed in detail during the conversation.
At the same time, official Paris has not yet commented on the results of the dialogue between the presidents.
