Zelenskyy at the G7 Summit: new sanctions against Russia and assistance to Ukraine to be discussed with Canadian PM

During a meeting on the sidelines of the G7 summit, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced a discussion with new Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on increasing sanctions pressure on Russia, Ukrinform reports.

“I want to talk to the Prime Minister about additional sanctions and thank you for the real and unwavering help from you, from all Canadians,” Zelenskyy said before the talks.

The President also stressed the critical importance of further military support for Ukraine. Amid active terrorist attacks by the Russian Federation, the Ukrainian military needs to maintain strength at the front.

“We are ready for peace talks, for an unconditional ceasefire. This is very important, but we need pressure,” Zelenskyy stressed.

The meeting takes place in the context of a broader discussion of new G7 sanctions and mechanisms to limit Russia’s military potential, as well as financial support for Ukraine from frozen Russian assets.
