President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called on Western allies to fulfil their promises to supply missiles and aircraft systems, as Russian troops have carried out more than 1,300 bomb and drone strikes on Ukrainian territory in the past week alone.

“Every week, the Russian war continues only because the Russian military retains the ability to terrorise Ukraine and use its superiority in the skies,” Zelenskyy said on social media platform X, where he also posted a video showing the consequences of Russian strikes on civilian infrastructure.

According to him, since July 2024, when decisions were made at the NATO summit in Washington to support Ukraine’s air defence, some of the commitments have not yet been fully implemented. Zelenskyy emphasised the critical need to implement the agreements also reached in Ramstein to strengthen Ukraine’s air defence.

He noted that Ukraine is in talks with Western partners, including the United States, to transfer licences to produce its own air defence systems and missiles. “There is nothing impossible in this, and it will only strengthen our joint security capabilities,” the President stressed.

Zelenskyy also stressed that Russia can only be forced to peace by limiting its ability to continue its aggression. “Part of this restriction should be a sufficient number and quality of air defence systems,” he concluded.
