Zelenskyy on the Crimean Platform: Ukraine’s victory plan and challenges on the road to peace

At the third parliamentary summit of the Crimean Platform, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy outlined the key stages of Ukraine’s victory plan. He stressed that the successful implementation of this plan would lead to the restoration of international law and Russia’s participation in peace talks, even though the aggressor is evading genuine diplomacy.

“We will see Russia at the peace summit only when our victory plan is fully implemented. This will mean not only the implementation of our peace formula, but also the restoration of the principles of the UN Charter,” the Head of State stressed. Zelenskyy also emphasised that the main goal is to deprive Russia of any alternatives other than achieving a just peace.

A winning plan: five key points

Zelenskyy outlined five key steps in his plan. The first is Ukraine’s geopolitical strengthening, including its accession to NATO. The second is to strengthen the country’s defence capabilities, and the third is to deter Russian aggression. The fourth point is to expand economic cooperation, and the fifth is to ensure security.

“Russia is trying to avoid real negotiations and does not want to return the stolen goods, but we must force it to do so. We must strengthen Ukraine and strengthen our common positions,” the President noted.

Obstacles on the way to NATO

It is important to note that although Ukraine’s accession to NATO is one of the central points of Zelenskyy’s plan, the process is being hampered by a number of NATO allies. The United States and Germany, as well as at least five other member states, are not yet ready to extend an invitation to Ukraine to join.

Nevertheless, it is worth mentioning that the US position is changing. Washington no longer objects to Ukraine’s possible membership in NATO, which could further influence Berlin and other countries that have doubts.

Zelenskyy’s Victory Plan for Ukraine is an ambitious and comprehensive strategy that covers key aspects from defence to the economy and international politics. While significant challenges remain on the way to its implementation, including NATO membership, strengthening Ukraine’s position on the international stage is crucial to achieving a just peace and restoring territorial integrity.
