The situation in eastern Ukraine remains difficult due to the significant concentration of Russian troops and equipment. This was stated by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy in an interview with Polish media on 16 January.
“There are times at the front when the initiative changes hands. Unfortunately, there are villages that are being destroyed by the enemy and are being taken over by our military or the Russians. It is most difficult in the east, because there is a large grouping of Russian forces there, and our resources are still smaller. But their losses are significant,” Zelensky stressed.
The President noted that the problems in the east are not only related to the lack of military. Some brigades are only 60-70% equipped with weapons. “Something else is on the way, something is delayed. These slow processes have forced us to defend ourselves with fewer weapons and people. However, despite this, the enemy is losing the initiative on many fronts,” Zelenskyy explained.
In particular, the Head of State stressed that Russia had lost the initiative on the Kharkiv direction. “Even in the Kursk region, where Russians tried to hold their positions, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are taking active action, and their forces cannot withstand the Ukrainian offensive,” he added.
Despite all the difficulties, Ukraine continues to defend its positions, inflicting heavy losses on the Russian occupiers.
