Protective Screens for Soviet Tanks and American M1 Abrams Against Enemy Drones Produced by Metinvest Under Rinat Akhmetov’s Steel Front Initiative. Recently, a decision was made to start developing screens for Bradley IFVs.
Project Inception
Operational Director of Metinvest, Alexander Myronenko, announced this, reported by rbc.ua,citing the company’s press service.
Vulnerability of Abrams and Bradley
“When the Armed Forces of Ukraine received American Abrams and Bradley IFVs, it became apparent they were vulnerable to drone attacks. Steel Front began producing protective screens for both our and American tanks,” Myronenko explained.
Collaboration with Military
According to him, this is a result of collaboration with the military, who provide feedback enabling continuous improvement of designs.
Manufacturing Protective Screens
The screens are made from steel at Metinvest’s facilities. The process takes up to 10 days for Abrams and 2-3 days for Soviet tanks.
Development for Bradley
Metinvest is currently developing protective screens for Bradley, with initial samples set for testing within a week.
Military Feedback
Feedback from the military, often in the form of photographs, helps refine designs and ensure effectiveness in combat scenarios.
Construction of Underground Hospital
Steel Front is also constructing the largest underground hospital on the front line, equipped with surgical and intensive care units to stabilize wounded soldiers.
Importance of Protective Screens
Production of these screens is crucial for enhancing the defense capabilities of Ukrainian forces and safeguarding soldiers’ lives in combat zones.
Aid from Akhmetov’s Businesses
Since the start of the full-scale invasion, Rinat Akhmetov’s businesses have allocated over 9 billion UAH to support both military and civilian efforts through the steelfront.initiative.
