Moscow, 27 April 2025 – Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered several planes to be sent to Iran to help with the aftermath of a massive explosion in the port of Bandar Abbas, the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry has announced.

Putin expressed his condolences over the loss of life and offered Iran support in overcoming the consequences of the tragedy, the Kremlin press service said. The statement said that the president conveyed “sincere words of condolences and support to the families of the victims, as well as wishes for a speedy recovery to all the injured.”
According to the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, a Beriev Be-200 amphibious aircraft designed to extinguish fires and an Il-76 military transport aircraft will be sent to Iran to provide assistance.
Iranian state media reported that on Saturday, 26 April, a powerful explosion, allegedly caused by the detonation of chemicals, occurred in the port of Bandar Abbas, Iran’s largest port. The tragedy killed at least 25 people and injured more than 700.
