Today, the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF), together with the General Security Service (Shabak), successfully delivered the released hostages to a military camp in the Re’im area, near the border with the Gaza Strip. This camp is the first reception point for the released prisoners after their return from captivity.

Increased safety measures during transport

The transport operation was conducted under the tight control of the security forces. The freed hostages, who were in a state of physical and psychological exhaustion, received primary medical care immediately upon arrival at the camp.

Then – to hospitals for a full examination

In the near future, the released prisoners will be transported by helicopter to Israel’s leading medical centres – Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv and Beilinson Hospital in Petah Tikva. There they will receive a comprehensive medical examination and psychological support.

Reserve places were also prepared in Barzilai (Ashkelon) and Soroka (Beersheba) hospitals for cases when the released hostages need urgent care.

The condition of the released prisoners is stable but exhausted

Initial reports from doctors indicate physical weakness and severe psychological exhaustion among the released prisoners. According to IDF sources, some of the hostages are in a state of emotional shock after a long captivity, but their condition is assessed as stable.

Next – rehabilitation and return to families

After completing medical procedures, the released hostages will have access to psychological rehabilitation and support programmes. Specialists will help them to adapt after their captivity and return to normal life.

It is expected that once the condition of the released prisoners stabilises, they will be able to meet with their families in specially prepared rooms in hospitals.

The result of the operation

The operation to free and transport the hostages once again underscores Israel’s determination to fight for the lives of its citizens. The IDF and the Shabak continue to work towards the return of other Israelis who remain in captivity.
