A dramatic incident took place this afternoon on the Vovk River in Khmelnytsky Oblast, where rescuers from the State Emergency Service of Ukraine rescued a 12-year-old boy who had fallen through the ice. A passer-by heard the boy’s cries for help and immediately called for assistance.

The rescuers quickly arrived at the scene by boat and used a rope and a life preserver to successfully pull the boy out of the cold water. After being rescued, he was immediately handed over to medical professionals who provided the necessary assistance.

According to preliminary data, the boy, on his way home from school, decided to try fishing and went out on thin ice. Unfortunately, the ice broke, and one of his feet fell into the water. In a state of shock and fright, he lay down on the ice, hoping that this would help him avoid further falling through the ice, and began to call for help.

This incident is yet another reminder of the danger that ice can pose, especially in the early winter when it is not yet thick enough to move safely. Rescuers urge citizens to refrain from going out on the ice during dangerous periods and always make sure it is solid to avoid tragedies.
