Russia attacked Ukraine with 79 Shahed drones: air defence destroyed 63 targets

On the night of 2 March, Russia launched a massive attack on Ukraine, using 79 Shahed attack UAVs and various types of imitation drones. This was reported by the press service of the Ukrainian Air Force.

The enemy launched drones from the areas of Orel , Bryansk, Millerovo and Prymorsko-Akhtarsk.

The air attack was repelled by units of anti-aircraft missile forces, electronic warfare and mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Air Force and Defence Forces.

As of 8.30am, 63 Shahed attack drones and other types of drones have been officially confirmed to have been shot down in the skies over Kharkiv, Poltava, Sumy, Kyiv, Cherkasy, Kirovohrad, Zhytomyr, Vinnytsia, Khmelnytsky, Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson and Mykolaiv regions.

Another 16 Russian imitation drones disappeared from radar without any consequences for the Ukrainian side.

The attack affected facilities in Kharkiv, Sumy, Khmelnytsky and Zaporizhzhya regions. Information on the damage and casualties is being updated.

The Air Force continues to work hard to protect Ukraine’s skies, and the Defence Forces are holding the line in response to new waves of hostile attacks.
