The Security Service of Ukraine reported the detention of a person who was adjusting the missile and drone strikes of the Russian occupation forces in Odesa region. The detainee, a 26-year-old local resident without a steady income, was recruited by the enemy through Telegram channels that promised “easy” earnings.
To carry out his activities in favour of the enemy, the offender grew long hair and posed as a woman. Under the guise of a woman, he gathered intelligence by photographing military facilities and recording their coordinates. One of the main targets of his activities was the facilities of the Ukrainian army and security services, in particular in the port city of Izmail.
According to the SSU, the information collected by the criminal could have been used by the occupiers to plan new air attacks in the region. However, thanks to the operational work of counterintelligence, the agent was exposed in a timely manner and detained without the possibility of causing harm.
During the search, a mobile phone with evidence of his criminal activity was found on the detainee’s person. He was served a notice of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason under martial law) and is currently in custody.
Further investigation is being carried out jointly with the SSU investigators and under the procedural supervision of the Regional Prosecutor’s Office. The offender faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property for his actions.
