Based on the materials of the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) and the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU), under the procedural guidance of the Prosecutor General’s Office, a current member of the Ukrainian parliament was served with a notice of suspicion of treason. This was reported by the TimeUkraineIsrael portal with reference to the official telegram channel of the SBI.
According to a comprehensive psychological, linguistic and military examination, the MP committed actions that undermined Ukraine’s defence capability and information security even before the start of Russia’s full-scale aggression. In particular, in 2021, he disseminated false information denying the possibility of a military invasion of Russia from the territory of Belarus. The investigation found that this message was aimed at misleading the public and creating a false sense of security, which undermined the country’s defence capabilities at a critical time.
In addition, the investigation found that in September 2020, the MP had contacted representatives of the Belarusian Embassy and demonstratively took to the rostrum of the Ukrainian parliament with the flag of this country, which caused a sharp reaction in society. His actions included the dissemination of information that discredited Ukraine’s Western partners and undermined confidence in European values. Such actions, according to investigators, undermine the country’s information security and unbalance Ukraine’s relations with international partners who support it in the international arena.
Thus, on the basis of the exposed facts and collected evidence, law enforcement agencies initiated criminal proceedings on high treason, in which the MP of Ukraine is involved.
