Hollywood actress and well-known humanitarian activist Angelina Jolie found herself at the centre of a scandal after she reposted a post by the international organisation Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) on Instagram on 19 April, Cursorinfo reports.
The report describes large-scale destruction and humanitarian disaster, for which the organisation directly blames the Israeli army:
“Gaza has become a mass grave because of Israeli attacks. It is depriving civilians of their basic living conditions and destroying their lives. We call on Israel to cease fire and on everyone to return to the ceasefire,” reads the MSF post that Jolie published on her page.
The organisation’s statement also contains harsh language:
“We demand the immediate resumption of humanitarian aid, which has been suspended to allow civilians to die of suffering.”
The publication caused a wide response in the Western media, in particular because it is not the first time Jolie has publicly criticised Israel. Her stance has already caused tension in her own family: the actress’s father, actor Jon Voight, known for his support of Israel, has repeatedly condemned his daughter’s position.
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), the organisation operating in Gaza, regularly publishes reports on the critical humanitarian situation in the region. The statement of 19 April is one of the most harsh in recent weeks.
