Officers of the Counterintelligence Department of the Security Service of Ukraine detained the assistant head of the Podil District Territorial Centre for Recruitment and Social Support in Kyiv on suspicion of bribery, TimeUkraineIsrael portal reported, citing regionews.ua.

According to the information, the detainee tried to receive a monetary reward by promising one of the defendants in the criminal proceedings to help him avoid fines for violating the legislation on defence and mobilisation. He also offered assistance in obtaining an illegal deferral from mobilisation.

“Our task is to continue the fight against corruption in the procurement system. Such incidents not only endanger individual territorial centres, but also compromise the entire system. That is why we will work hard to cleanse this area of offenders,” the Kyiv City TCC and JV emphasised.

This case took place against the backdrop of other revelations in Kyiv. Recently, $1.2 million and eleven luxury cars were found in the Holosiivskyi district recruitment centre. The employees are suspected of facilitating mobilisation evasion.

It also became known that the head of the Ternopil District TCC and JV was declared a suspect for extorting a bribe from an entrepreneur in exchange for a deferral of military service.

These events demonstrate the urgent need to continue fighting corruption in Ukraine, as each such case not only damages the credibility of the system, but also undermines the state’s efforts to ensure its defence capability.
