Fatal road accident near Lviv: seven dead, three injured

A triple accident involving a truck, a car and a minibus occurred on the Ternopil-Lviv-Rava-Ruska motorway near the village of Chyzhykiv, Lviv district. This was reported by the National Police Department in the Lviv region.

The accident occurred on Sunday, 15 December, at around 05:30. A BMW car, a DAF road train and a Mercedes Sprinter minibus were involved in the collision.

“Seven people, passengers of a Mercedes Sprinter minibus, died on the spot from their injuries. Their identities are currently being established,” the police said in a statement.

The injured:

  • A 45-year-old truck driver,
  • A 39-year-old minibus driver,
  • A 23-year-old passenger in a minibus.

All the victims were hospitalised in medical institutions in Lviv, their condition is being checked.

Investigators, forensic experts and other officers are working at the scene. Criminal proceedings have been opened under Part 3 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of traffic safety rules, which led to the death of several people).

The circumstances and causes of the accident are being investigated.
