The Government of Ukraine has recently adopted a resolution introducing a new support mechanism for internally displaced persons (IDPs) – a subsidy for rent. This instrument is intended to ease the financial burden for families facing difficulties in paying rent.
Who can get a subsidy?
The subsidy will be targeted at families with limited financial means who have difficulty renting due to low income. In particular, those families who spend more than 30% of their total income on rent will be able to receive assistance in the form of a subsidy.
Terms of receipt
The subsidy will be available to those whose income does not exceed 2 subsistence minimums per person, which is currently UAH 5,840. In this case, the subsidy will cover a higher percentage of the rent, which will reduce the financial burden on families in need of support.
When will the subsidies start?
The award of rental subsidies for IDPs will start in mid-January 2025. The government promises to announce the start of applications for this type of support in due course.
This new tool will help many families to feel more confident in difficult circumstances and improve their access to housing in Ukraine.
