On 12 and 13 October, Kyiv will host a marathon for the first time since the start of the full-scale war, symbolising the resilience of Ukrainians. The event will start on Trukhaniv Island, and on Sunday the participants will head off the island for the first time, continuing their journey through the Northern Bridge, Obolon, Natalka Park and the Azov Wave Bridge. The marathoners will run two laps, while the half marathoners will cover a distance of 21 km.
To ensure the safety of the participants, we are planning to provide many more shelters, which will allow runners to quickly find shelter in case of an air raid. Partial traffic restrictions will ensure the safety of the event: two lanes will be closed on the North Bridge in one direction, but there will be no complete closure.
Already at the preparation stage, the marathon has raised over UAH 6 million for charity, with a goal of reaching UAH 10 million. Half of the proceeds from the different distances will be donated through the UNITED24 platform for defence needs, and 100% of the proceeds from the 1.6 km course will be sent to the Superhumans centre.
This year, we expect twice as many participants as last year, including a separate race for military personnel and veterans. Registration is open at kyivmarathon.org.
The Kyiv Marathon of Fortitude is not only a sporting event, but also a symbol of the endurance of the Ukrainian people, who are ready to overcome all difficulties.
