The Chief of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine Kyrylo Budanov received an award from Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal for his significant contribution to the fight against Russian invaders during the war. Budanov announced this on 6 October on his Telegram page.

In his statement, he stressed that this award symbolises the importance of the efforts of every intelligence officer who works on different fronts every day, showing courage and determination. “This symbolic award emphasises the role and importance of the work of all our employees who are tirelessly and persistently fighting the aggressor state,” Budanov said.

He also expressed his gratitude to the head of the Cabinet of Ministers and the Ukrainian government for their support and recognition of the DIU’s work, noting that this contributes to strengthening the country’s defence capabilities in the face of ongoing aggression. This award is a confirmation of the high appreciation of the intelligence community, which plays a key role in protecting Ukraine’s national interests.

Given the tense situation at the frontline, it is important that government agencies recognise the efforts of those who work in the shadows, providing information and strategic support for military operations.
