Ukraine’s Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko has said that 10% of Ukrainian police officers are directly involved in the fighting at the frontline. This includes about 10,000 law enforcement officers who are part of special units, such as the ‘Luty’ brigade, and consolidated units working together with the National Guard, he said in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.
Work on the front line
According to Klymenko, a total of 25,000 police officers are permanently deployed in the combat zone, performing tasks such as evacuating civilians, working at checkpoints and other operations that go beyond the scope of normal police activities.
“As of today, about 40-45,000 law enforcement officials, including the police, the National Guard and the State Border Guard Service, are working in the combat zone or frontline regions,” the minister said.
Staff ratio
Ihor Klymenko added that 25% of the National Police officers are women, and 17% are under the age of mobilisation. Thus, almost all the National Police forces are involved in combat missions.
“More than half of the personnel of the National Guard and the State Border Guard Service are also performing combat missions in the hottest spots,” the Interior Minister stressed.
These figures demonstrate the scale of the work that law enforcement officers are doing to maintain security and protect Ukraine in a full-scale war.
