The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, General Oleksandr Syrskyi, held the final annual meeting on military training, stressing the need to extend the training period for participation in combat operations at the front to two months.
In his Telegram post on 27 December, he noted that quality training of the military is important to preserve their lives and health. Syrsky stressed that the main goal is to create conditions for full training, which will last for two months.
“We are currently working to create conditions for the training to last two months in total. After all, high-quality training means, first and foremost, the preservation of the lives and health of our soldiers,” the Commander-in-Chief said.
He also mentioned recent changes in the military training system: now the basic general military training (BGMT) lasts 1.5 months, instead of the previous 30 days. An additional beginner’s course in units takes from 5 to 14 days.
However, according to Syrskyi, these standards cannot always be met in the context of intense hostilities, and he stressed the importance of adaptation of recruits.
“I emphasised the need to ensure a full 14-day adaptation period for new recruits in brigades. Commanders must prepare soldiers for the challenges of modern warfare as much as possible to keep them in combat,” he stressed.
The Commander-in-Chief also heard reports on training problems and discussed ways to solve them. He identified the main tasks to improve the quality of training and increase the volume of training, including updating the standards of the CPE and conducting this training at the combat brigades’ facilities.
