Ukrainians can get vaccinated against influenza by receiving an electronic prescription from their family doctor without having to visit a medical facility. This was announced on TV by Oleksandr Zaika, head of the National Immunisation Programme at the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.
“Today, this service is available in one of the pharmacy chains, and we are actively consulting with other chains that are ready to join. Seasonal flu vaccination allows Ukrainians to remotely contact their family doctor, receive an electronic prescription, buy a vaccine in a pharmacy, undergo a pharmacist’s examination and receive a vaccination,” Zaika said.
He also noted that there are very few contraindications to vaccination, the main one being an allergic reaction to a previous vaccination.
Zaika also said that pharmacists at the pharmacies where vaccinations are carried out are trained accordingly. In the future, they will improve their skills annually as part of their continuous professional development. All the necessary changes to regulations have already been developed.
The project of vaccination in pharmacies was developed before the full-scale Russian invasion, and now Ukraine is gradually moving closer to European and American practices of providing vaccination services. This is reflected in the Ukrainian immunisation strategy, which has been approved by the government.
This step will make the vaccination process more convenient for Ukrainians and increase the availability of vaccines, bringing Ukraine closer to the best international standards.
